Limelight is a world-renowned public intervention that has toured the globe from Glasgow to Istanbul. Through the efforts of chART, the project was able to make its 13th stop in Vancouver in February, 2013. For two nights, city street lights were replaced by spotlights, creating a limelight where impromptu performances occurred. The project took place in Marpole as well as Vancouver’s downtown core, connecting the communities at either end of Vancouver’s main transit and business artery, Granville St. This was the first dual presentation of Limelight during its world tour. Under the auspices of chART, also unique to the Vancouver presentation was the artists’ involvement in a workshop for the Richmond engineering department, a master class with graduate students at Emily Carr, a keynote presentation at the Lululemon Lecture Series, and a community workshop about public art, lighting, and urban development.
